Crayon Physics

Postby chance on Sat Nov 15, 2008 5:09 pm

This game says it is s a new and unique and new puzzle game, but it looks a lot like a direct copy off the free game Crayon Physics. Crayon Physics was a original game that came out over a year ago on June 1st, 2007. This game has been made into a full $20 game called Crayon Physics Deluxe. Over a year and a half of work on this Deluxe version, it is now close to done. I have to say if you look at Crayon Physics Deluxe, it is very similar to this game, and it came along first. Isn't this game just a copy of it?

Oh yeah and it also won the 2008 Independent Games Seumas McNally Grand Prize of $25,000 for best inde game of the year. It also beat the other contestants, which include the immensly popular World of Goo and Audiosurf.

They are both totally different games and have different features, you can simply test that by comparing the demo versions or the videos on youtube. CPD will surely be a good game, but it's not even out yet. There are a few similar puzzle games out there, not just one, and all have a different style of gameplay. In it's own kind Zany Doodle is very unique and has a lot of unique features. No other FPS is a copy of Doom and no other Jump'N'Run is a copy of Mario. Games are made to have fun with and it's not like anyone is forced to play just one of them. The development of this game started long before it was even announced, that CP will be made into a real game and I think you know that developing software is a little bit more work than having an idea. Games ideas do evolve and I don't think that anyone considers this as a bad thing...

I suppose you are right. The idea was taken from CP but the way this game was developed is different. Making a game isn't just coming up with the idea, it still takes work. All I can say is that this game kind of stole Crayon Physics thunder by coming out first (becuase this is pretty much the same thing).

ps. Crayon Physics Deluxe is out (well you can pre-order anyway). I pre-ordered and am participating in the beta.

Understanding all the work that's behind a new application it's hard to say that this game and Crayon Physics are completely different. Not only the concept but also the graphic layout (the paper background, the yellow stars, the hints) is almost a clone. Anyway it's a very good program (i have used the demo in my classrom, at school, with an interactive board and the students were really stunned with it), and i can run it on my old notebook (only 16 mb video card nvidia go) while Crayon Physics wouldn't run. So it's probably that I'll buy the full version.
