Stuck on level 20. Question about different coloured crayons

Postby flagpole on Mon Jan 05, 2009 6:19 pm

I'm really enjoying the game but i can't help that think that it lacks a bit of documentation. for a few levels now i've felt like i've been stumbling in the dark.

is there any convention as to what properties a different coloured crayon might have throughout the game??? it doesn't seem very clear. i can see form the editor what things might be different about different crayons but this isn't explained in the game. the game needs to stand alone too.

plus, level 20, (i think it's level 20 anyway, has 5 stars and two spinning crosses either side of a platform,) i'm completely befuddled any suggestions well received.

Hi flagpole. Most of the time I tried to use bright colors for crayons that have less mass, you could think of it as a piece of plastic. Darker color means heavier objects and for instance I used the darker gray pen most of the time for steel like objects. They are heavy and have less friction. Green pens often have more friction, like rubber. Sometimes I had to use other colors, because the would barely be visible on the background but I tried to stick with the dark-heavy/bright-light color scheme, so you just have to try it out. ;)

That's useful information, thank you.

I would say that i think it would be helpful to have something along those lines in the game.

in the early levels there are some elements of a tutorial, you have those levels where the hints come up, and you have the level where different colours have gravity in a different direction. but as i recall there was nowhere saying that they might have different bounce, friction and mass. ideally i would have thought a tutorial level that played on this point would then invite the player to explore it for themselves.
